New Year began with many resolutions but how many are still being followed? Let’s try to get back to the one that topped everyone’s list of being healthy or losing weight.
I love avocados, especially in shakes.
I first tasted Avocados during my stay in Bangalore. Avocados are commonly known as ‘Butter Fruit’ in south India. A friend recommended me to try the Butter Fruit shake, at a local juice center. The shake was quite thick in texture but extremely creamy and delicious in taste. With my first sip itself, I instantly fell in love with the shake and the fruit.
NUTRITION AND HEALTH BENEFITS
Avocado is a nutrient dense food. It contains many essential nutrients including soluble fiber, high in several B Vitamins, Vitamin K, Vitamin E, with good content of Vitamin C, potassium, and folic acid. It is the only fruit that has monosaturated fat (good fat). It also acts as a “nutrient booster” by helping increase the absorption of fat-soluble nutrients like Vitamins A, D, K and E in foods that are eaten with the fruit.
Avocado has a long list of health benefits. It is an excellent source of antioxidants which help in slow aging. The high potassium and folate content in avocado helps to regulate blood pressure, protecting our body against heart problems and stroke. It can lower cholesterol, improve eyesight and guard against eye diseases, help fight oral cancer, prevent breast cancer and is effective in weight loss too. Regular consumption of avocados strengthens the body’s immune system.
Now that you know the goodness of Avocadoes let me show you my favorite and simplest way to incorporate this superfood in your diet.
1 ripe Avocado
1 1/2 cups Vanilla ice-cream or Essence (Optional)
1 or 1/2 cup Almond milk or Low-fat milk
1 tablespoon Sugar or Honey
Cut the avocado in half and remove seed with a knife.
Add the avocado, ice cream, milk, and honey to a blender. You can also add a few ice cubes if you prefer your drink a little cold. Blend until smooth!
Split avocado shake between two glasses and serve.
